Secret
Plan To Fly Foreign Ebola Patients To The U.S. Denied By Obama Administration

A plan to bring Ebola-infected non-citizens into the U.S. has prompted
denials by Obama administration officials.
An internal U.S. State Department memo obtained
by several news outlets floated the idea of transporting individuals diagnosed
with the Ebola virus to America for treatment.
According to CNN, the memo, which
was marked sensitive but unclassified, “recommends that the two federal
agencies come up with a system to admit into the United States non-citizens ‘as
long as they are otherwise eligible for medical evacuation from the Ebola
affected countries and for entry in the United States.'”
The memo also asserts that the “United States
needs to show leadership and act as we are asking others to act by admitting
certain non-citizens into the country for medical treatment for Ebola Virus
Disease (EVD) during the Ebola crisis,” the Washington Times reported.
A State Department representative indicated that
there are “no plans” to bring Ebola victims into the country from Africa.
Spokeswoman Jen Psaki claimed that the memo in question was authored by a
mid-level official and never reached the agency’s senior decision-makers.
Responding to the allegation, an unnamed State
Department official also claimed that “[t]here are absolutely no plans to MEDEVAC
non-Americans who become ill from West Africa to the United States. We have
discussed allowing other countries to use our MEDEVAC capabilities to evacuate
their own citizens to their home countries or third-countries, subject to
reimbursement and availability. But we are not contemplating bringing them back
to the U.S. for treatment,” Fox News reported.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte
contacted Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh
Johnson about the alleged plan to evacuate Ebola patients to America, but
apparently received no response.
Said Goodlate, “Members of the media, my office,
have received confidential communications saying that those plans are being
developed. This is simply a matter of common sense that if you are concerned
about this problem spreading … we certainly shouldn’t be bringing in the patients.”
Last month, Judicial Watch claimed
that “the Obama administration is actively formulating plans to admit
Ebola-infected non-U.S. citizens into the United States for treatment… The
plans include special waivers of laws and regulations that ban the admission of
non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola. One source
tells us that the Obama administration is keeping this plan secret from
Congress. The source is concerned that the proposal is illegal; endangers the
public health and welfare; and should require the approval of Congress.”
In a recent situation report, the
World Health Organization indicated that 236 healthcare workers involved in
treating Ebola patients in West Africa have died. The overall total death toll
in West African Ebola cases as of mid October is 4,484. About 10,000 persons
have been infected with the virus.
Do you accept the premise that the federal
government has shelved plans to evacuate Ebola patients to the U.S.?
