Flint residents still billed for toxic water. Parents told that if they don’t pay and water gets shut off, they will loose custody of kids. Michigan requires running water if you have kids- even if the waters poison.

While the Flint water crisis threatens hundreds within the city and the damage caused by lead poisoning looms over families and children, many are still forced to pay unusually high water bills. RT’s Brigida Santos has the story of a woman who is facing growing bills in the face of the crisis.
The hard truth is that Flint is below the national average for poverty.
So paying for toxic water and having little clean water available on a stretched budget- probably means that many are still using and possibly even drinking this toxic water.
For basic survival purposes, it is said that the average person requires 5 gallons of clean water a day to drink, bathe, wash dishes etc. And that’s for extreme survival situations.
Can you imagine buying bottled water for a family of 5’s daily requirements.
Just think- flushing a toilet in the U.S. Takes 5 gallons of water.
Many are not accustomed to extreme water conservation methods, tactics and even implementation.
Hell, even Californians are only on the tip of that iceberg.
This is an extreme situation where all available city water should not be used unless you are flushing the toilet.
Edit to add-
This is also an extreme situation where people are being told that if they fail to pay the water bill and water is cut off they could have their children taken away because Michigan requires running water in a household with kids. Never mind it’s toxic water, it’s required- and pay that bill.
Further- people cannot sell their houses and attempt to move (if they can afford that) because Michigan says it’s illegal to sell a house with known lead/toxic plumbing issues. Dump another $10,000 down the drain if you even want to get away from the toxic mess.
