Somehow over the years Canada has become a nation of complacency, a trait that is the root of mediocrity and the enemy of productivity.
During
the commodities boom, it wasn’t just Alberta that benefited, but the
entire country, which patted itself on the back as growth here outpaced
that of our southern neighbours. But, alas, times have changed. With the
global economic slowdown came lower demand for oil, cutting the value
of a marginal barrel. More so, Canada saw its largest customer suddenly
become its largest competitor, with the United States growing its oil
production from four million barrels per day to more than 12 million
over the past decade.
