Action Alert!
Yesterday, President Biden took the extraordinary step of ordering an illegal bombing raid against the nation of Syria. Reports are coming in that as many as 22 people were killed and we can assume that there were innocent civilians in that number.
Attacking a sovereign nation is illegal under international law. It is also unconstitutional under U.S. law for a President, ANY President, to order a military strike such as this without Congressional approval unless the U.S. is under imminent threat of attack.
I need you to make a call to your Congressperson and Senators today and insist they speak out against this attack and urge invoking the War Powers Act of 1973 to assert Congressional authority in these situations.
Please Make this Call!
Bob, Please take a moment right now and call your Congressperson and Senators listed here:
Representative Josh Gottheimer at (202) 225-4465 or at @RepJoshG
Senator Cory Booker at (202) 224-3224 or at @SenBooker and Senator Bob Menendez at (202) 224-4744 or at @SenatorMenendez
When you get through to their offices, please tell the staff person who answers: "My
name is YOURNAME from YOUR TOWN. I am urging the Congressperson or
Senator to make a public statement condemning the bombing attacks on
Syria. Only Congress has the constitutional power to declare war and it
is time for Congress to reassert this authority by invoking the War
Powers Act. This is a time for diplomacy, not a time for the U.S. to be
flexing it's military power which will only serve to ratchet up the
tensions in the region. Thank you."
Ask them to get back to you with your Rep's feedback.
If you happen to get the office's voicemail, please leave this statement as your message. We must make it clear to our elected officials that we are paying attention and are tired of business as usual.
I have also given you the Twitter handles of your reps. If you have a Twitter account, please amplify this message there also.
If you have any questions or comments, please reply to this email or give the office a call at 973-259-1126.
Thanks for everything you do for peace!
