Earlier in the day, Azeri Ministry of Defence said that the city of Ganja has been attacked by the Armenian forces. Before that, Nagorno-Karabakh, an unrecognised ethnically Armenian republic within Azerbaijan, asserted that several large villages were attacked by the Azeri army, despite the ceasefire brokered by Moscow on 10 October.

The Azeri Prosecutor General's Office stated Sunday that at least five people had died and 28 others were injured as a result of shelling in Ganja, where a rocket destroyed a residential building.

Earlier, Azerbaijan's Emergencies Ministry said at least five dead bodies were recovered from the debris, while 17 more people were injured.

Smoke rises after the recent shelling, in Stepanakert, the self-proclaimed Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27, when Yerevan and Baku accused each other of provoking military hostilities.

A fresh round of hostilities in the Armenian-dominated Nagorno-Karabakh region, a self-proclaimed republic that declared independence from then Soviet Azerbaijan in the 1990s, broke out slightly over a week ago when Yerevan and Baku accused each other of violating the ceasefire and carrying out provocations along the line of contact.

The fresh tensions between Armenia, the unrecognised Republic of Artsakh (Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh), and Azerbaijan have shown no signs of abating as it's been eight days since new clashes erupted in the region.
