My Dear Fellow Clergymen:While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recentstatement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom do I pauseto answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticismsthat cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other thansuch correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for con-structive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and thatyour criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement inwhat I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.

Blogger's note: The reason that I posted this was that here in most if not all of the US holding a religious service has been banned, and the vast majority of the pastors, rabbis, imans, etc. are silent to this attack on a God given right. "In the face of evil, silence is a statement, and not to act is an act" Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich paid for his words and actions with his life, as did Martin. As Patrick Henry said many, many years ago "Give me liberty of give me death." To live in freedom one has to live by that principle.
