On the morning of August 27th, Typhoon Bavi landed near the border between China and North Korea, with maximum winds of a magnitude of 12 or 35 meters per second and a minimum pressure of 970 hPa near the center. After landfall, Bavi is expected to turn northeast and move through the three northeastern provinces of China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping went to Northeast China on July 25 to inspect grain production, which was interpreted as a food crisis in the second half of the year. Northeast China, where typhoons and rainstorms are rare, has provided a steady supply of food for China every year. However, since the beginning of this year, it has experienced a long term drought. Now coupled with a rare typhoon, the situation has become even worse.
