Rebel yell: Southern nationalists again crying ‘secede’

Southern nationalists seek “nothing less than the complete reconquest and restoration of our patrimony – the whole, entire South.”

As 21st century activists seek to topple monuments to the 19th century Confederate rebellion, some white Southerners are again advocating for what the Confederates tried and failed to do: secede from the Union.

It’s not an easy argument to win, and it’s not clear how much support the idea has: The leading Southern nationalist group, the Alabama-based League of the South, has been making the same claim for more than two decades and still has an address in the U.S.A., not the C.S.A.

But the idea of a break-away Southern nation persists.

The League of the South’s longtime president, retired university professor Michael Hill of Killen, Alabama, posted a message in July that began, “Fight or die white man” and went on to say Southern nationalists seek “nothing less than the complete reconquest and restoration of our patrimony – the whole, entire South.”

US On The Brink Of War

In South China Sea

The U.S. Navy is conducting its largest ever series of war games in history in the South China Sea, amid a complete media blackout. 

In April over 9,000 troops were deployed from the U.S. and Australia to the region and experts have warned that the games are leading up to a real confrontation between China and the U.S.

In addition to 5,000 soldiers, the U.S. has sent Battleships, Navy Destroyers, multiple Air Craft Carriers, anti-missile defense systems, nuclear subs, 55 fighter jets and long range WW2 bomber planes. Much like with Yemen, the United States has sold munitions and missile defense systems to the Philippines to strengthen their military. The President has also lifted our long standing weapons ban, quickly arm Vietnam – a country also quarreling with China at this moment in time. The United States has alsotemporarily stationed B-1 bombers, surveillance aircraft and aerial tankers at Australia’s Northern Territory bases.

President Obama calls our building presence in the South China Sea a “show of force,” to intimidate the Chinese and remind them that America still has the strongest military in the entire world. Obama wont declare war on anyone, or put “boots on the ground” in any sort offensive military campaign. What he chooses to do instead, is passively aggressively show our rivals what our military could be capable of – if it ever came to that. In a sense, these operations serve much like a ‘nuclear deterrent’. Only instead of nukes we use soldiers, war ships, subs and fighter jets.

 

This is all happening because China has laid claim to nearly all the “disputed islands” throughout the South Pacific, ignoring the claims of Philippines and other countries to the same land. For quite some time now, especially within the last couple years, China has slowly transformed their presence in the region. In doing so, China has also experienced a rise in nationalism and military capability.

China has taken many of these islands and turned them into geo-strategic military bases, air strips and harbors. These once vacant islands are now used to host advanced radar capabilities, anti-missile defense systems and safe havens to store military vessels/munition far away from the Chinese mainland. In recent months, in response the U.S. efforts doing the same, China has moved in additional troops, fighter jets and war ships to the region. According to China’s defense ministry, they believe the U.S. is attempting to “curb the rise of China,” trying to prevent them from acquiring and developing more of these islands.

News came out last week that China will be sending in a fleet of 5 ships, including spy planes, to the rim of the U.S. led RIMPAC military drills. The flotilla, including two war ships and a floating hospital, will be sent to monitor the heightened presence of U.S. forces into the area. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Monday that “China has no interest in any form of Cold War, nor are we interested in playing a role in a Hollywood movie written and directed by certain US military officials. However, China has no fear of and will counter any actions that threaten and undermine China’s sovereignty and security.”

People often talk about the vacuum effect caused by the United States pulling out of Iraq, leading to the rise of ISIS in their absence. What many people are failing to realize is this vacuum effect is now occurring all around the world – for example the South China Sea.

It is no secret, the U.S. as a country is significantly in decline. As a result, other countries such as China, Russia and Iran have all stepped up to fill the vacuum left behind in the global power structure. As the United States is regressing, these countries are progressing. The only thing the United States leads the world in any more, is defense spending and military resources. These are the biggest chips we have left to play.

We might not be at war, but we are dangerously close to setting the stage for this to happen; not just in the South China Sea, but in Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Syria and the Baltic. I sincerely fear the outcomes if/when the United States gets a leader next year, who is not as conservative with our military as Obama has been.

A Cuban Missile Crisis Event

This Cuban Missile Crisis Map from the 1960’s showed the range of Soviet missiles in Cuba. Today, all of North America is in range of Russian missiles based in Cuba.

 

As Mark Twain once said “History may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme”. And what is going on in the South China Sea rhymes with happened in America, in the 1960’s.

The Cuban Missile Crisis

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, surveillance photographs demonstrated that the Russians were embedding nuclear weapons into Cuba, thus reducing American response time from 27 minutes to 3 minutes.

President Kennedy responded by blockading Cuba and Russia backed down and World War III was averted.

Presently, in the South China Sea, China is preparing to limit access to the South China Sea and use their military to achieve this aim.

China’s actions clearly threaten the viability of the Trans Pacific Partnership and the present form of the American government. In fact warmonger, Senator John McCain, is calling for more US troops to be sent to the South China Sea which will clearly push the present situation to a crisis point.

Adding fuel to McCain’s fire, comes from Secretary of State John Kerry as he stated:

China said last month that frequent US Navy patrols in the South China Sea were forcing Beijing to boost its defense capabilities in the area. This month, Kerry warned China to not increase their surveillance and air capabilities in the South China Sea.

The irresistible force meets the immovable object.

The New and Emboldened China

China’s economy, no matter how many times they try to restructure is failing. The Chinese government faces disenfranchised opposition from extremely poor peasants living in the outlying provinces. To add salt to these wounds, the Chinese have been left out of a monumental trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Subsequently, Chinese foreign policy is guided by these two principles:

1. Disrupt the TPP so no nation gains an economic advantage over China. It is an agreement that China derives no value.
2. Isolate Taiwan geographically and militarily. Closing down the South China Sea moves China in the direction of accomplishing this kind of action. The short-term goal is to economically diminish Taiwan. The final goal is the take-over of Taiwan.

China is increasingly aggressive, almost to the point of forming a quasi-naval blockade in and around the disputed territories which are a point of disagreement between China, her neighbors and the United States. In fact, China’s actions within the last few days are clearly indicative of a nation determined to defend its claims.

It is critical to keep in mind that every dispute in the region, for China, begins and ends with Taiwan and Taiwan lies just north of the disputed area. These unfolding events in the South China Sea is also about the unfolding of the new Chinese hegemony, or, the establishment of the most recent flavor of the New World Order.

The Surface Nature of the Dispute

China’s rapidly growing perimeter which will protect Chinese invasion forces when they attack Taiwan.

Vietnam, Malaysia and most of all, the Philippines are impacted by aggressive Chinese action in the region in which the Chinese are constructing militarized islands which are serving as an impediment to free trade. The areas of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam could provide the Chinese war machine with virtually unlimited supplies of oil, rubber and other raw materials needed to maintain a sustainable Chinese war effort if China is able to dominate the region.

In a very disturbing development, China stated on Saturday “that it will ignore the decision of an international arbitration panel in the Philippines’ lawsuit against Beijing’s sweeping territorial claims in the South China Sea”. This is clearly China’s line-in-the-sand comment.

                                 Conclusion

Certainly, all the elements for a monumental confrontation are in play and the events are surely reminiscent of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

As they continue to militarize the South China Sea, the Chinese give no indication that they are going to back down.
