National Guard to be deployed in Monroe, Erie counties over security concerns amid asylum seeker influx
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Members of the New York Army National Guard is being deployed to Monroe and Erie counties amid rising security concerns as asylum seekers arrive, according to the governor's office.
Monroe is among several upstate counties that received an influx of migrants seeking asylum over the last week.
BACKGROUND | 77 asylum seekers being housed in Rochester
In Erie County, two migrants were recently accused of sexual assault.
Not long after, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello asked the state for additional resources for security.
